This is the fifth short December Podcast on Mindset and focus for 2021.

Today I ask whether you're failing to allow time for your intentions to become reality.

Speaker 1:

Hi, I'm Diana Liversidge. And thanks so much for joining me on my podcast. This is my fifth short December podcast, where I'm looking at the focus on mindset. It feels like 2020 has been a year that frankly has messed with our heads. And so I'm doing a series of 10 short podcasts to look at how we can shift that focus. I am a great believer that what we focus on becomes our truth. And today I wanted to talk about intentions. It's a great idea to start a new year, particularly when it's a year, we're all looking forward to not being the current year, but you know what I mean, when we're really ready for that new year, it's a great idea to start with some intentions. But if you don't actually commit to these things, they are just intentions, setting a goal at the start of every new year and realizing it's kind of similar to the one you set, but the year before is often because your intentions were great. You had every intention of making that change of doing that thing of, of joining that class of taking that action. But then life took over and you got busy doing busy. We're all doing busy-ness. So in order for an intention to actually happen, it has to be an action. And for an action, you need to have allowed time. I love paper diaries. I've I've always had either a big planner or a big lovely page per day paper diary. And one of the reasons for this is I am a visual person. I like to look at things and then flip backwards and forwards very easily, and think how busy am I? Where is the space in my world? Where am I going to fit in things I want to do? And so I've already got a diary that runs into, I think it's August next year. I, I like these. Um, the diary is really designed for people at school or at college because they run by their calendar. But I start meet here in a new, fresh, beautiful diary. And so at the moment, I have already got things in my diary for January, February, March, right? The way through for parts of next year. And one of the things I do is I time block for me to complete my goals. Now that means that in January, there are already entries in my diary that say things like writing, and then it's very specific about what I'm supposed to be writing. And it says it's Tuesday from 10 till 11, or it'll have a whole afternoon where it'll say research, and then it'll tell me what I'm researching. Why have I bothered to already put these things in my diary? Well, because I am working on some pretty big exciting projects for 2021, and they're not going to happen if I don't put the time aside for them to make sure that my intention to do them actually becomes my real. Yeah. They love you to get your January, January to March diary in front of you, whether that's electronic or a paper diary like me. And I'd love you to look at where the, the spaces are currently available to you. And what you're wanting to your intentions are for January to March next year, that are going to need you to put something in those spaces. No, it's all very well setting ourselves goals and challenges, but if we don't allow time for those intentions to become actions, we are simply setting ourselves up to fail. I do this for every month and I tend to do it about midway through the month before I go into the following month. And I say, what are my intentions for next month? And have I given myself the time for those intentions to become reality? If not, I need to reassign some time, or I need to think again about my intentions. Are they realistic? Are they actually as urgent as I had it in my head that they are. And of course on the flip side is my diary full of busy as opposed to productive. And should I perhaps be rethinking the things I've put in my diary to take my time up next month? We're all going to leave 2020 behind with the intention of having a better 20, 21. Now we can only influence very small parts of, of the big picture of our world, but we're not going to have any influence at all. If we're not allowing ourselves time to do things, to research things, to fulfill our, The timing right now, grab that diary, do it today. You will thank me for this because once you've given yourself the time you're going to be looking at how much you're achieving and be thanking yourself for putting the time in your diary to allow your intentions to become a reality. I hope you'll join me again tomorrow. We're going to be looking a little bit at what you're actually spending your time on at the moment and how in 2021, that could look different if you've enjoyed today. And I'm just going to ask one thing of you. Stop trying to think outside the box. There really is no box.
