Create your own timeline - acknowledge your personal lessons from 2020
Show Notes Transcript

In this third episode of short Podcasts on supporting your mindset with a more positive timeline, I look at the lessons for each of us from 2020. Taking the time to acknowledge what we've learned about ourselves allows us to create a foundation for personal mindset support.

I’m Dinah Liversidge and I’m a Coach and Trainer, a Celebrant and co-host of The Charcoal Hut, a woodland cabin in Myddfai, Carmarthenshire. I’m also a no-box-thinker. I believe when we stop trying to ‘think outside the box’ we take away labels and limitations that were always an illusion. There never was a box.

I love being a Coach, a Celebrant and a Host. All these aspects of my life help me achieve that illusive ‘work-life balance’ so many seem to be striving for. Join me in Myddfai in our woodland garden for a #MyddfaiMinute and listen to one minute of birdsong. I hope it brings you some peace.

I hope you’re enjoying my Podcasts. I’d love you to share them with someone you think would get something positive from them.

Speaker 1:

Hi there I'm Dinah Liversidge. Thanks for joining me on my no box thinking podcast this month, January, 2021. I'm focusing on the new year and how, instead of setting big goals or declarations, instead, you can think about changing your whole mindset, how your mindset and the way you take control of it will actually impact what you achieve is huge. And so I think when we set ourselves up every January with these resolutions and big goals, if we're not thinking about, well, what have I done to change my mindset this year versus last year, we're kind of due to not to make great progress. So I'm encouraging you in this short series of 10 podcasts for January to create your own timeline for 2021 and yesterday, or sorry. In my last episode, episode, two of the series, I talked about what you could choose to bring with you. There are good things in our timeline that we want to bring with us. And today I wanted to talk about the lessons personally, your individual lesson that has come out from last year. And it's about acknowledging. These were very quick to move on from things and not actually take the time to review them, to ask how they occurred, whether we want to repeat them or not. And so acknowledging the lessons can be really, really important for self kind of support structures moving forward. So for example, a lesson I learned is that I love seeing people that I talk to zoom for me works really well, and I have to limit how much of that I do because I also find it exhausting. So it was a big lesson for me that, you know, Mrs. People person actually needed space in the day where if somebody would like to talk to me, let's just make it over the phone. Like it used to be, if somebody wants to connect with me, couldn't they just send me an email today. And I realized that even I, as somebody who really has this grounded belief, this mindset that I need to be around others to be content, I discovered a big lesson for me is actually what I need is balance. I love the opportunity I get when we're not in lockdowns to go away for sometimes a week at a time, perhaps to be at a conference, to speak at an event, to deliver some training. Um, sometimes it's only a couple of days, but it, it can be up to a week and I spend time around new people, some of whom I know, but most of whom I don't, and it reenergizes me. And I love that kind of exchange of energy that goes on when you find yourself with lots of like-minded people. So I get a huge amount from doing that. And then when I come home to our tiny little cottage in the woods in Wales and there's peace and quiet and my amazingly calm, and it won't surprise you to hear introverted husband, um, just let me sit and be and relax and not be around others. And what that does I realized is it allow me to spend a few days on my return enjoying and noticing what that's done for me. It has there's that lovely expression topping up each other's tank or filling your bucket. You know, that wonderful book, how full is your bucket? And then what we tend to do is rushed straight back into something. And instantly that gorgeous feeling is gone so often. Uh, the first day back at work, after a conference, you'll hear people say, Oh, I'm really missing everyone. Oh, this feels awful. And I think that's because we've rushed back in and not taken the time to notice the impact. It had to learn the lesson about how important it is for us. So I'm really intrigued. What are the lessons for you personally that have come out of this kind of bizarre sometimes very scary and, and certainly, um, something that's out of our personal control. What's come up for you as a lesson about what you do really well, because we often surprise ourselves when we look back and think, gosh, you know, I really did cope. I may have had my moments. I know I certainly went out and screamed at the trees several times. Um, but I, I look back at the bigger picture of the year and I say, so what Sean, what in me flourished in this time and equally important, what didn't do so well, what have I learned that perhaps I can't repeat or won't repeat? What have I learned about how to support myself when I find it tough? And so the lessons from last year can become a gift. I know that in my life, some of the toughest years, we had ended up being the foundations on which I built my best year. Yes. I hope that 2021 can become that for you. And if you take just 10 minutes today and think about one lesson from last year, one thing you did really well enjoy that for a moment because that tops up your positive timeline and it also becomes your truth for your mindset going forward. Thank you for joining me in the next episode. I'm going to be talking about whose timelines can inspire us. I'm Diana Leversedge and please always remember there's name need to try and think outside the box. There never was a box.
