What do you say to yourself? What words or phrases are you using as your language to yourself that is not supporting a positive mindset?

I’m Dinah Liversidge and I’m a Coach and Trainer, a Celebrant and co-host of The Charcoal Hut, a woodland cabin in Myddfai, Carmarthenshire. I’m also a no-box-thinker. I believe when we stop trying to ‘think outside the box’ we take away labels and limitations that were always an illusion. There never was a box.

I love being a Coach, a Celebrant and a Host. All these aspects of my life help me achieve that illusive ‘work-life balance’ so many seem to be striving for. Join me in Myddfai in our woodland garden for a #MyddfaiMinute and listen to one minute of birdsong. I hope it brings you some peace.

I hope you’re enjoying my Podcasts. I’d love you to share them with someone you think would get something positive from them.

Speaker 1:

Hi there. I'm Dinah . Liversidge welcome to my no box thinking podcast. This month. I'd like you to think about learning a new language, a language to support your mindset. In this first episode of 10 short podcasts on this topic, I am going to focus today on what your current mindset language sounds like. Stupid twit. Oh, you're so clumsy. I can't believe I still can't do this. If any of that sounds familiar, your mindset language is actually undermining your opportunities, your hope, probably your joy and most certainly your self confidence and self-belief, And how's that working out for? You know, really. How do you feel when you say these things to yourself? I can't imagine it's ever a great outcome. And yet this is language we often repeat for years. It has become our mother tongue and it dominates and suppresses and destroys hopes and goals and dreams and desires. And it stops you from shining. And yet you repeat it over and over. Well, you know why it's because it's become the only language you speak. And as my French teacher would tell me over and over again, you're only going to get this right, if you practice. So how about today? You decide that you're going to listen to the current mindset, language that you use. What words come up over and over again, if you can pick just one word to change one word in that language that you could say, I'm going to take you away . What would you replace it with? And it can't be one of the other negative words. This is about saying in those moments, when I instinctively turn to that language, that I've always used, I'm going to learn to replace it with something else. And I put the emphasis on learn because you're learning a new habit by doing this. One of my favorite examples of how to understand this is the exercise I did many years ago, where I replaced my negative response to compliments with the word words. Thank you. And that was it. I wasn't allowed to say anything else. I was learning a new response, a new language and the ripple effect of the replacement of the negative words with thank you. Were enormous. Everybody who, who paid me a compliment that I just said, thank you too . We're so pleased. Oh great. She's acknowledged that. Yeah. She deserved acknowledgement praise recognition. She's allowed me to give her the gift of doing that of saying I see you. I see the great work you did. I see the thoughtful way you responded. I see the effort you made. And in my new language, when I said, thank you. I said, I appreciate that. You took the time to do and see those things. And to tell me that you had noticed. So one thing that you say over and over again in your language that you could change, I'd love to know which word or phrase you've picked and stick with this. The next time you say it, don't berate yourself for not replacing it with something else. Acknowledge it and say, look, I really have learned having time to beat myself with this phrase. Now I'm going to change that. I'm going to keep working at it until my new language becomes my language of choice. Thank you for joining me on my podcast. I hope you'll come back for the next episode where I'm going to talk a bit about how you talk to your imposter mindset. I hope you'll join me. Thanks again. I'm Dana Leversedge and remember there never was a box.
